Chemical leak at Cadbury

Friday, 07 October 2011

Several CFA crews are working to contain what’s believed to be a nitric acid leak at the Cadbury Schweppes factory in Scoresby.

CFA was called to the scene at 32 Koornang Road just after 1pm and 14 units are still on scene (4.45pm) trying to contain the leak.

15 people were originally evacuated from the factory which has now escalated and surrounding factories have been evacuated.

As the factory has released a cloud of high irritant vapour, CFA put out a warning for people to stay in doors, close all windows and turn off air conditioning.

A rehab module was sent to the scene to assist those working on the incident.

CFA units on scene are from Boronia, Scoresby, Knox Group, Ranges Group, Dandenong, Hallam, Scoresby, Bayswater, Rowville and Ferntree Gully.
